Antony Price, the influential style architect who crafted some of the most iconic looks favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died aged 80.

He was celebrated for his architectural shapes and dramatic aesthetics, including the pastel suits that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's classic music video for "their hit Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement online."

Price's death comes just weeks after he unveiled his latest collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Singer Lily Allen showcased a dress inspired by the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" once worn by the late Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price moved to London in the early 1960s to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing men's fashion at Stirling Copper and was responsible for the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger wore during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the bridal gown Price designed for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A frequent collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the iconic jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in designing body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "genuine original," according to the British Fashion Council.

In the 1990s, he started creating outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, such as various looks for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.

Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in partnership with the design house 16Arlington.
