The Gunners' boss has expressed confidence that his side can persist in handling with injury setbacks after revealing that star striker Kai Havertz will not return for the coming weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for German Star

The Germany international has been absent for months after undergoing knee surgery. Initially expected to come back at the start of this month, the manager stated the player encountered a problem when advancing his recovery and could not progress “to the next level.”

“We took lessons, and managed to assemble a squad that is considerably steadier and has increased versatility,” commented Arteta.

Tactical Decisions for Brentford Clash

This update leaves a tactical puzzle for Wednesday’s home game against Brentford. A decision is required between continuing to use Mikel Merino, who got a goal as a makeshift striker last weekend, or reinstating Viktor Gyökeres, who came back from a muscle injury in the latter stages. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus is in contention after 11 months out.

Defensive Concerns Persist

Further fitness issues surround centre-back William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who were absent for the Chelsea match. Consequently, summer signings Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are likely to start again in the heart of the defence for the league leaders.

Arteta feels the significant outlay on new players ahead of this season has placed the club in a more robust situation to handle such setbacks.

Greater Options Key to Title Challenge

When asked if a larger pool of players was helping their championship push, Arteta was emphatic. “Indeed, because this season has seen more issues in certain positions, and now the problems with the backline,” he added.

“Our previous experiences taught us that we must deploy players in various roles, and they must be capable to adapt to new tasks if we aim to challenge at this level. And the instance of Mikel is just the best one.”

Arteta's Support for Suffering Star

Commenting on the delay noted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta provided additional context. “He was doing everything. He failed to advance to the next level and now it appears like we have overcome that hurdle.”

Arteta expressed his personal desire to welcome him back. “Everyone is eager to have him. Honestly, it’s a player that, personally, I admire greatly for the qualities he offers to the team, but his personality, his personality. I observe his frustration on the sidelines.”
