Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Has The Club's Support Following PSV Loss
Arne Slot admitted that it was natural for concerns to be raised about his position after a further heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth loss in 12 matches, marking the club's worst streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I have got a lot of backing from the top,” the coach commented.
“It would be great to change things and secure a win obviously but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Talks with Club Management
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal discussions I sense the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them after this match yet so we'll see.”
Recurring Issues and Squad Reaction
The manager lamented recurring shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, specifically missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his view of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder said.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a phase like this with performances this poor.”
He concluded, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And until that badge is removed, we will always battle.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
