The Latest Casual Playlist Ignites Intense Debates Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several key changes:
- Every squad includes only eight human participants, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
- Activities done by real players award complete experience points, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
- Just a pair of locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.
In short, this mode lives up to its name: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it gives additional choices for gamers seeking different ways to have fun with the title. But, if video games have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 players are upset.
Player Responses: Anger to Support
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," says another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," while someone else lists all the issues they believe to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."
However, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this title 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," and another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Concerns and Community Feedback
Despite the support, players have valid points to criticize the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it will make wait times even longer for different playlists due to the large amount of options in the game already. On a similar note, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to remove XP farming from the system. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base compromising in the middle, as per forum feedback. A different user labels this mode as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?
If the development team has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and acting on player input. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
