The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Chose the Wrong Critical Role Track

This latest animated series, the most recent animated adventure from the beloved role-playing group, revealed a new opening credits. It showcases our favorite cast of misfits, outcasts, and rogues fighting hard and taking names, while teasing at multiple heart-wrenching backstories for characters including Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, the character Fjord.

Overall, the opening looks stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was missing in the song choice.

The intro uses "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar song composed by producer and singer the talented musician. It's a track from the soundtrack album of that title, the second one released by the production company's record label their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic choice, and I believe that fans of the second campaign will appreciate its inclusion.

But for me, The series' intro doesn't quite capture the excitement and excitement that was part of the show's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", written by musician Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic for me when it was first revealed in 2015, and it only got better when co-founder the performer added lyrics to the tune for the series' animated intro in the later year.

Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the song was catchy and fun. Back then, I hadn't seen the second campaign yet, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my device. This track that excites you before you start an episode of adventurous fun.

The Mighty Nein's opening with "the new song" doesn't strike the right notes in my opinion. It's an impressive piece of music, but from what I know of the group, I can't help but feel that its mood is a little off.

Of course, the creators has already said that the series will have a few surprises and variations from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its intro seems to be one of them.

This animated adventure will be released on the streaming service from Nov. 19. For those eager before that, or wish to prepare to learn about the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are accessible on Spotify and the video site.
