The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the WSL side.

Departure from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
