Toronto Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Meeting Against defending champion Dodgers
The outfielder was instrumental for the Astros securing the championship in 2017.
Canada's MLB team advanced to their maiden Fall Classic since the 1993 season by defeating the Mariners in the seventh seventh game of the AL Championship Series.
Trailing three runs to one, outfielder George Springer delivered a three-run blast in the seventh, guiding the Toronto squad in MLB to a 4-3 win in the best-of-seven series. Next up are the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that is the defending champions, in the anticipated Fall Classic.
"It's incredible for everyone here, Toronto, our country," said Springer, a key player of the Astros team that won the 2017 World Series. "It's truly an amazing experience."
George Springer has now hit twenty-three post-season home runs, placing him third on the list after Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).
"I can't think of anyone else on planet Earth that I'd prefer in that spot besides Springer with his post-season brilliance," noted manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the one club never to appear in a World Series.
Manager Dan Wilson commented "there's no question that it's going to sting" after his team's loss at Rogers Centre, but praised their performance this season.
"It's a special team. Unfortunately that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of this game," he added.
Toronto won the title on their two prior appearances in the early 90s, and will welcome the Los Angeles in game one on the upcoming Friday.
